Sizing the Easywalker: The Easywalker is sized in millimeters and a sizing guide can be found on the pricelist page.
Shaping: Once you have determined the correct size Easywalker for your horse the shoe can be shaped in several ways. 1...Hold the shoe against the hoof and trace the outline of the hoof against the back of the shoe. Use your nippers to cut away the unwanted portion (leave a little extra to ensure that you don't cut away too much.) Once nailed on you can further shape the shoe with a few passes of the rasp. 2...As well, you can nail the Easywalker in place first and then trim the shoe with the nippers and rasp as above.
Nailing: The Easywalkers are nailed on similarly to a steel shoe with a couple of subtle differences. 1...Because of the low concussion properties of the Easywalker, the sole of the hoof does not need to be trimmed away to reduce sole pressure. Shoe contact is no longer a problem. The sole actually becomes part of the support mechanism. 2...The Easywalkers are designed to be used with an E-head nail. They are molded so that the E-head nail has maximum contact on all sides of the nail slot. Use of a non E-head nail may cause wear in the nail slot and may loosen the shoe. 3...The nails are meant to be countersunk into the Easywalker. This is done with the use of the Easyblocker. It is a tool designed to countersink the nail head while turning the clinch at the same time. This ensures that the nail doesn't back out while using the clincher. Farriers installing the Easywalker on horses with extremely thin or brittle hoof walls may want to countersink the nails with their pritchel and then turn the clinches using the "Hammer method". Care must be taken to ensure the nail head is supported while the clinch is turned with the hammer.
